General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Component Engineer (Design Assurance Engineering Specialty). This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:Experienced Engineer with a working knowledge of electrical component design, construction and fabrication processes. Involves working closely with project design teams, manufacturing operations and Quality Assurance to interpret contract system flowdown Quality requirements into parts, materials and processes requirements that can be established, tracked and documented through internal and customer driven Parts, Materials and Processes Control Boards (PM&PCB). Working knowledge of Military, Aerospace and Industry standards and specifications requirements for parts and materials is recommended. Job requires travel to suppliers to audit components and processes for compliance to specification requirements and possibly customer facilities. Candidate will need strong communications and organizational skills as well as technical experience and knowledge. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:• Analyzes engineering-design concepts of product to recommend part-level quality and test methods for attaining customer-specified system-level operational requirements, using knowledge of component construction and manufacturing/test processes• Reviews New Part Requests and creates/validates part information using product lifecycle tools such as PDM Link• Advises and confers with engineers in design review meetings to give part selection, analysis and test recommendations• Generates formal technical reports per Government standards in accordance with Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) requirements • Supports part-level failure analysis and root cause analysis and working with suppliers/projects to identify corrective action and recovery plans• Participates in the development of Parts Control Plans• Participates in supplier discussions to determine conformance test plans • Participates in a Failure Review Board (FRB) as a team member• Participates in parts stress analysis/worst case analysis efforts• Supports Incoming Inspection by performing data reviews for high reliability parts to in accordance with Part Control and Quality Management Plans• Participates in a FRACAS program as a team member• Applies physics of failure technique for root cause investigations• Reviews and approved Destructive Physical Analysis reports.• Participate and present in design, test, and manufacturing readiness reviews at suppliers and internal manufactured electronic parts and hardware.• Reviews GIDEP documentation and provides recommendations to programs.• Assists with projects through the development and production of major programs• Provides Supply Chain Management organization technical guidance to ensure that parts being procured match supplier capability and ensures that supplier quoted costs are reasonable based on technology, customization and required screening/testing • Works closely with Project Leaders, Electrical/Mechanical Engineers and with other professionals within the project teams • Works with Microsoft Access and similar database tools to maintain parts and materials control database for the Components Engineering team• Utilizes Microsoft spreadsheets on a daily basis to identify, organize and manage parts and materials requirements/attributes for programs• Occasional contact with business development functions including proposal estimating support• Travel may be requiredPREFERRED DEGREE TYPES AND EXPERIENCE:

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:Department of Defense TS/SCI W/Polygraph security clearance is preferred at time of hire. Candidates must be able to obtain a TS/SCI W/Polygraph clearance within a reasonable amount of time from date of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
