Sr. CAD Operator
This is the third level of the CAD Operator classification. Senior CAD Operators utilize AutoCAD to construct and revise civil and electrical design drawings from engineer's or designer's markups to support generating station, switchyard, substation, and corporate projects for the construction or maintenance of electrical utility facilities. Incumbents are expected to utilize design skills in their field of study and the ability to work with greater independence.
Must meet one of the following
Graduate from a college or university with an Associate Degree in Computer Aided Drafting Technology (or equivalent) AND 3 to 7 years’ experience
OR 5 to 11 years of experience and completed (30) credit hours in an approved technical program
OR 8 to 17 years equivalent experience with no degree.
Experience in the utility industry.
Advanced AutoCAD Civil 3D experience, defined as:
4 years of specific AutoCAD Civil 3D experience
Experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D to produce site development models, drawings and material quantity takeoffs
Proficient in creating alignments, profiles, corridors, pipe networks, surfaces and other AutoCAD Civil 3D software specific functions
Experience using stormwater modeling extensions in AutoCAD Civil 3D (i.e. Hydroflow, Storm and Sanitary Analysis)
Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D 2015 or higher
Advanced AutoCAD Electrical experience, defined as:
4 years of specific AutoCAD Electrical experience
Experience using AutoCAD Electrical for P&C (Protection and Controls) or other Electric Utility applications.
Experience using the intelligent, automating features and toolkits within AutoCAD Electrical.
Experience using AutoCAD Electrical to create interactive wiring diagrams.
Proficiency in creating and implementing dynamic blocks.
Ability to create styles, settings, drawing details, and template files to help facilitate the creation of drawing standards
General understanding of Transmission Engineering drawings (Substation and Protection & Controls)
Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Duties and Responsibilities
With Minimal Supervision:
Designs thorough and accurate drawings from verbal and written instructions, sketches, field measurements, etc. and may assist in scheduling department CAD work.
Use and develop standards, work methods, compile 2D and 3D parts, blocks, and details that create more accurate and understandable drawings.
Maintain and update electronic drawings in the company's document management system.
Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities.
Strives to continually improve job-related, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance.
Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files.
Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
