Mead Johnson Nutrition (MJN) is seeking a mechanical designer / CAD administrator to join the site engineering team at the Zeeland Supply Center (ZSC) infant formula production site located in Zeeland, MI. The successful candidate must have previous experience supporting the planning and execution of facility and equipment projects in a manufacturing and packaging environment. The mechanical designer works on projects to deliver successful outcomes in a fast paced operating environment while maintaining the site drawing standards program.
The mechanical designer must function both autonomously and in close collaboration with project engineers, project managers, maintenance personnel and allied support groups while interfacing with multiple departments, consultants, and contractors. The primary responsibilities include;
Assist the engineering staff by providing layout and design expertise for the specification, fabrication and installation of equipment and piping systems.
Confers with site functional groups including engineering, operations, quality, and environmental, health and safety to define project objectives and work product deliverables.
Prepares or directs the preparation of equipment or system layouts and detailed drawings and schematics.
Determines feasibility of designing new plant equipment or modifying existing equipment considering costs, available space, time limitations, company planning, and other technical and economic factors.
Performs field inspections of affected plant areas to develop and verify feasible design approaches and to recommend appropriate solutions.
Develops project documents including mechanical specifications and drawings to define fabrication and installation requirements and obtain contractor cost proposals.
Researches and analyzes data such as specifications and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.
Supports fabrication activities and provide technical expertise to ensure conformance with design specifications and objectives.
Analyzes test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
Assists with installation, commissioning and qualification activities by providing design expertise and knowledge of functional requirements.
Updates master record documents to include “as installed” conditions for work products including equipment layout, installation, utility connection, and piping systems.
Maintains the site CAD drawing system including approved engineering drawings and technical record standards.
Oversees compliance with the drawing standards and document management for the control of master documents and adherence with approved site standards.
Associates degree in mechanical design from a two year college or technical school and 3 years of mechanical design experience is preferred or 5-10 years of directly related experience and/or training.
Relevant mechanical design experience in an infant formula, pharmaceutical, or food and beverage manufacturing environment is preferred with a working knowledge of FDA regulations and good manufacturing practice (GMP) guidelines.
High proficiency with Autodesk AutoCADÒ computer aided design software system.
Familiarity with SOLIDWORKSÒ, RevitÒ or other 3-D solid modeling computer aided design software.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Familiar with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment to achieve company objectives.
Work on multiple projects simultaneously involving multi-discipline teams.
Experience with the design of mechanical systems including equipment layout, process piping, utilities, and plumbing.
Experience with the fast paced environment of a production operation.
