The Design Assurance Center (DAC) of Excellence is looking for experienced Engineering professionals who are interested in applying their technical skills and experiences to improve Rockwell Collins Design & Development methods and mentor Engineering teams. This position is responsible for working with the Engineering design and development teams throughout the development lifecycle to provide quality-focused technical and process oversight for Rockwell Collins product developments. As a DAC team member, you will help ensure new product designs meet or exceed requirements, Engineering best practices are followed, customer and regulatory agency requirements are understood and met, and defects are identified and eliminated prior to transition to production.
In this role, the ideal candidate will be capable of advising project teams and leadership of design quality trends and systemic issues, working with organizations to investigate issues, understanding and leading efforts to determine root cause of design issues, and providing recommended corrective actions as needed to achieve design and development objectives for high quality designs.
This position requires the applicant to have a thorough understanding of, and demonstrated experience in, Engineering design and development process and methods, industry standards and regulations, requirements analysis and capture, integration, test, and engineering documentation for certification.
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
* Primary Design Assurance Engineering point of contact for assigned engineering developments.
* Assure new developments meet customer, company, DO-178B, ARP4754A, and any additional regulatory requirements as applicable.
* Mentor engineering teams throughout the development lifecycle regarding process, design quality, and regulatory requirements in order to ensure problem-free product and artifact deliveries.
* Ensure robust design by assisting engineering in the use of appropriate tools and practices.
* Proactively assess development projects on an ongoing basis to determine health of the project using pre-determined objective measurements and audits
* Ensure engineering efforts are performed effectively and align with Rockwell Collins & customer's quality expectations.
* Lead the effort to ensure quality issues seen in legacy products (both in factory and field) are eliminated in new designs. Facilitate cross-functional teams to accomplish this.
* Employ Quality-related tools such as Root Cause Analysis, Variation Reduction, Key Characteristics, etc. as appropriate. Analyze project data for trends and systemic issues - recommend corrective action. Produce metric reports for management review.
* Participate and contribute to project team meetings, design reviews, Test Readiness Reviews, and other associated meetings. Provide data collection, analysis, and reporting to support these meetings as required.
* Engage other DAC Subject Matter Experts to ensure appropriate DAC technical engagement
* Represent DAC at Customer events
* Develop project-specific quality plan and lead creation of customer-specific Design Assurance documentation for new product developments as required.
* Assist transition to production, ensuring design and development related quality issues are resolved
* Facilitate Lean Engineering Accelerated Planning (LEAP) activities
* Ensure plans account for lessons learned
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Candidate must be a self-starter, be able to multi-task, manage unplanned events, and take advantage of opportunities and events to achieve results that exceed expectations. This individual must be able to communicate with employees at all levels in the organization, demonstrating excellent problem solving, critical thinking and decision making skills. Additional requirements include an understanding of electrical and systems development and the associated processes. Solid understanding and experience in the engineering development lifecycle with emphasis on design quality aspects is critical for success.
DESIRED SKILLS:
The ideal candidate will also possess the following skills or direct experience:
* A strong customer focus
* A proven track record of meeting commitments
* A strong working knowledge of design processes, including the RC Technical Consistent Process (RC-TCP)
* An understanding of lean value and savings
* An ability to communicate masterfully both verbally and in writing
* An ability to establish rapport with all levels of the organization, including leadership, internal engineering customers, shared service organizations, and external customers
* Working knowledge of the aerospace industry, manufacturing, ARP4754A, DO-178B, ISO-9001 and AS9100, desired.
* Design engineering experience required.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in applicable engineering or science field, and six years of related experience, or, in the absence of a bachelor's degree, twelve years of related experience.
Applicant must be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. US Citizenship is required.
