Stryker is looking for a driven and detail-oriented Staff Materials Engineer that has a passion for quality, material processing and design improvements. We are in need of a lead level engineer that can be an advocate for integrating quality into our innovative designs. You will be joining a team of self-motivated, independent and creative thinkers, we work together and across function ensuring product excellence.
What you will do
As a Staff Materials Engineer, Design Assurance you will lead design control activities, materials engineering and risk management processes throughout the product life cycle. Our team works within the Design Assurance function, but will have significant interaction with PD, Regulatory and Operations.
You will support the currently marketed product by analyzing materials and manufacturing processes and make recommendations for improvement.
You will focus on not only design improvements from the materials perspective, but also material processing changes (i.e. heat treatment, passivation, welding, etc.)
You will work cross functionally to drive our company’s mission and strengthen the Stryker brand.
You should love solving complex problems in a fast paced and stimulating environment.
You will lead and participate in design changes by identifying new material selections and design requirements such as weld callouts and heat treatment requirements.
You will work closely with operations and suppliers to assess process changes that could impact material properties and ultimately potentially impact product design.
You will be an Influential partner to R&D driving safety and performance in products.
What you need
Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgical or Materials Science; Engineering or Mechanical Engineering highly preferred
4 years’ experience in materials development, testing and analysis ideally in a strongly regulated environment such as medical device, military, automotive or aerospace industry
Experience in material processing such as heat treatment, welding, casting, forging, and passivation highly preferred
Extensive experience in risk management activities by developing risk management plans and reports, conducting risk reviews, verifying implementation and effectiveness of risk controls highly preferred
Extensive knowledge of 21CFR820, ISO 13485, ISO 14971 related to design and development process.
Work From Home: Occasional
Travel Percentage: 10%
