Profile

Mechanical Designer

Design and develop engineering drawings required to obtain FAA certification of components and ancillary equipment for specific aircraft missions. Develops design concepts for mechanical systems and modifications to aircraft converting concepts to finished engineering drawings which typically contain detailed part drawings, assembly drawings, installation drawings, drawing trees, parts lists and Advance Document Change Notices (ADCN's) utilizing SolidWorks or other CAD software. Utilizes Product Data Management software to control the configuration of designs.

Duties & Responsibilities

The successful candidate will have knowledge of mechanical and/or aerospace design, mechanical drawing practices. Defines critical geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). Creates final design layout using CAD 3D modeling software. Assists design engineer with developing complex mechanical design assignments where required outcomes are defined. Assists manufacturing with interpretation of drawings and manufacturing processes.

Creates new drawings. Preliminary and Detail design of Mechanical Structure for the creation and revision of modification kits and production design changes. Creates revisions to existing drawings.

Creates ADCN's.

Perform thorough review checks of own work and the work of others. Performs tolerance stack-ups to determine appropriate dimensions on drawings.

Assists and performs engineering project management duties and facilitate project planning. Basic knowledge of design concepts and techniques (e.g., concurrent engineering, Design for Manufacture/Assembly DFM/A ).

Assists in CAD systems and PDM administration.

Assist less experienced drafters / designers.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school education, plus training at a technical institute or community college in Mechanical Drawing or Drafting Technology. Associates degree in drafting technology or related field preferred.

Proficient with Computer Aided Design applications such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and CATIA V5. SolidWorks and /or CATIA certifications desired. Proficient with Microsoft Office software.

Familiarity with PDM software is strongly desired

Familiarity with Aircraft Structures or Mechanical Systems is desired

Strong written and verbal communication skills to be able to present ideas, concepts and proposals with a wide range of audiences, technical and non-technical, internal and external
