Production Designer/Graphic Designer
La Comunidad Newspaper is in search of production designer / graphic design INTERN for our publication located in Madison, Wisconsin. Samples of portfolio of your work will be requested to be available during your interview.
Work effectively with other team members and/or departments to gather project requirements, create, and act on feedback.
Create compelling, high quality, impactful advertisements within technical, creative, and budgetary constraints.
Adapt to a wide range of project types and timeframes with the ability to prioritize your daily workload.
Think critically and creatively while maintaining close attention to detail to provide error free work for customers.
Manage art files in data asset management tool according to current practices.
Demonstrate proficiency with Apple products and Adobe Creative Cloud programs including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
Responsible for designing the format of publications, utilizing layout software to assemble text,photographs and other content in an aesthetically pleasing and easy-to-read arrangement
Demonstrate proficiency in layout in regards to text and pagination areas, ability to pull in tables, graphics from other software and manage page layout.

IMPORTANT QUALITIES A SUCCESSFUL PRODUCTION DESIGNER WILL POSSESS ARE:
Production Designers must be able to look at their work from the point of view of their consumers and examine how the designs they develop will be perceived by the consumer to ensure they convey the client’s desired message, regardless of whether they agree with customer's business or advertising choices.
. Production Designers must be able to create designs that are artistically interesting and appealing to clients and consumers. They must look objectively at a design or page to generate the highest quality design possible.
. Production Designers must communicate with clients, customers, and other designers to ensure that their designs accurately reflect the desired message and effectively express information. A successful Production Designer with our company can build and sustain relationships, inspires trust and open communication between other departments and customers; and can clearly express themselves as a professional,both orally and in writing.
Most Production Designers use specialized graphic design software to prepare their designs. These include operation of both Mac & PC the Adobe suite of products including but not limited to Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and web development software.
Production Designers must be able to think of new approaches to communicating ideas to consumers. They develop unique designs that convey a recognizable meaning on behalf of their clients, understanding by working within the boundaries of the guidelines provided.
Time-management skills. Production Designers often work on multiple projects at the same time, each with a different timeline and must be able to multitask while meeting internal and external deadlines.
Other important Skills or abilities include:
Troubleshoots and resolves issues in a timely manner on deadline
Keeps up-to-date on new technology and system updates
Takes initiative to cross train on new skill sets within the department
Embraces changes supporting sales plans and providing excellent internal and external customer service
Presentation of work portfolio required
High School Diploma/GED required. Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.
A minimum of 2-4 years of experience in a related field required.
Experience in HTML/CSS coding and web design and video editing preferred.
Must be familiar with design concepts, methods, and best practices
Must be able to learn and work in multiple print applications simultaneously
Demonstrate ability in converting various
PART-TIME: 15-20 hours every other week. Eventually becoming a full time.
