In 1944, Melvin “Mel” Theodore Ulteig founded Ulteig in Fargo with a vision of electrifying the rural Midwest. By the 1950s, Ulteig had installed more than 7,000 miles of REA transmission lines. As the workload grew, so did business. Mel’s passion helped expand the organization’s capabilities and explore new possibilities. By 1960, Ulteig had opened an office in Minneapolis, Minn., growing the company’s reach to both public and private clients. Ulteig expanded its project portfolio throughout the next 40 years and added civil and structural engineering services to complement its prestigious reputation for electrical engineering service.
