INL is seeking experienced nuclear engineers with a strong background in reactor core design to support the USDOE Advanced Reactor Demonstration Program (ARDP). The position requires in-depth knowledge of reactor physics, thermal hydraulics, core design and analysis tools and methods.
Responsibilities
Contribute to the nuclear facility document safety analyses (DSAs), updates, and revisions.
Advise management on technical approach for resolution of complex issues.
Responsible for technical approach, product quality, and timely completion of core design projects.
Ensure that core designs meet requirements with appropriate safety margins.
Present and/or participate in design reviews including qualification testing on prototypes and perform calculations to support designs.
Select and widely apply reactor physics principles, theories, and concepts.
Provide imaginative, thorough, and practicable solutions to a wide range of complex, ambiguous, and/or difficult problems.
Have a key role in defining technical approach and setting technical directions for solving problems and meeting client needs.
Be responsible for implementing strategies necessary to meet key programmatic or organizational objectives dependent upon decisions or recommendations.
Lead peer review work within organization and be sought out for peer review by others.
Enhance technical/professional skills of junior staff through active mentoring and training as well as build (as appropriate) high performance teams across organizations.
Proactively identify, promote, and develop appropriate new technical capabilities within division.
Work with only occasional oversight on specific assignment objectives, complex features, and possible solutions.
Perform complex assignments given general results expectation and guidelines (for senior candidates at PR4 level). Select and develop technical approach to assignment.

Bachelor’s in relevant field & 5 years, OR Masters & 3 years, OR Doctorate & 2 years experience.
Familiar with the various reactor technologies currently under consideration, e.g., sodium-cooled reactors, gas-cooled reactors, molten salt reactors.
Must be able to work in a culturally diverse environment.
