Job Description

Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior Mechanical Process Engineer to work as a wastewater design engineer on large, complex, multi-discipline, high-profile water and wastewater treatment and pumping facilities for both traditional and design-build projects throughout the Greater New York Area. This position will be heavily focused on the detailed technical design associated with wastewater pumping systems, piping, valves, WWTP headworks, forcemain design, digester, settling tank design and large (>1 MGD) pumping station design.

Job Description Summary


Senior technical resource may serve as technical advisor for team
Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise
Develops study and design procedures to facilitate high quality cost effective work by others.
Participates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables
Develops construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects
Uses expertise in all steps of completing discipline component of PS&E package
Performs quality control review of design calculations or drawings
Prepares technical specification sections
Provides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements


Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:


Work closely with project managers and design managers.
Develop process flow diagrams and assist with the development of process & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
Perform hydraulic calculations for pump sizing including total dynamic head and operating points, net positive suction head margin, suction specific speed and submergence.
Research equipment and system design recommendations.
Coordinate with equipment vendors on equipment selections and draft specifications.
Develop technical specifications, equipment and piping plans, elevations, section and details.
Perform engineering related calculations for process equipment sizing and selection.
Verify compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards / practices.
Coordinate with other in-house engineering disciplines as needed.
Review shop drawings of proposed equipment from the construction contractor.
Performs specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.
Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.
Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.
Identifies discrepancies in results.
Provides guidance to entry level engineers.
Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision.
Independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works.
Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point)
Ability to work with a diverse team


Qualifications

Minimum Requirements


Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience
Professional Engineering License (PE)
8 years of related work experience as a Mechanical Process Engineer or equivalent wastewater engineering work experience


Preferred Skills


Experience in the water/wastewater industry
Experience with AutoCAD and Building Information Modeling (BIM)
New Jersey or New York PE preferred

Offered rate of compensation (NYC locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $133,500 - $246,975
