The individual works in the office and in the field, performing load testing, building envelope testing, setting up and using data acquisition systems, installing electronic instrumentation, documenting field conditions/distress in a variety of structures, drafting repair plans and details, and developing written reports, among other tasks. A successful individual in this role will need to assimilate and execute testing procedures with accuracy and precision, and have the drive to continuously build proficiency in a wide range of equipment and test methods. This individual will need to prioritize multiple projects, working under the general supervision of a Project Manager, but completing routine and moderately complex testing and field assignments independently. The technician will maintain a variety of specialized equipment to investigate several types of construction materials and systems used in new and existing structures and will be able to assist Project Managers with assembling CAD drawings for the repair of structural, facade, roofing, and waterproofing systems. Requirements Associateu2019s degree in related field or equivalent of three years of relevant work experience with a high school diploma Hands-on capabilities with experience in electronic, construction, and/or applicable mechanical trades Ability to safely use and/or operate various construction power tools Ability to read construction drawings and diagrams Ability to perform routine tasks with little or no direction Ability to work independently and to perform tasks after verbal and written instruction Proficiency in AutoCAD/Architectural Desktop, including current knowledge of drafting and design standards Willingness to travel to job sites for up to two weeks at a time Detail-oriented with effective written and oral communication skills Software knowledge: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Adobe Acrobat, Bluebeam Essential Functions Prepares preliminary and final architectural/structural construction drawings derived from rough layouts, verbal instructions, field notes, and sketches that adhere to company drafting standards Provides support on projects involving a variety of building materials and systems, including steel, concrete, masonry, stone, stucco, roofing, and waterproofing Assists with field investigations, testing, and documentation of existing site conditions Lab/Field work including concrete and materials testing, precast and epoxy bar plant quality auditing, and infrared surveying Conducts specialized testing in the field Maintains and calibrates field equipment Works as part of a collaborative team of technicians, scientists, and engineers to achieve project goals Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position requires visual acuity and listening ability. Individuals must have the dexterity to be able to operate office and field equipment such as computer, printer, copier, telephone, voice mail system, and other office and field equipment. Requirements may also include: Ability to perform inspections of bridges and other structures, both visually and with instruments Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment up to 50 lbs. Ability to perform work in the temperature extremes presented by work in the outdoors Ability to read construction drawings, diagrams, printed materials and computer screens Ability to record data clearly and write passages for reports, letters, etc. Ability to safely work at heights and use and/or operate ladders, scaffolds, lifts and other access equipment Ability to safely use and/or operate various construction power tools Ability to understand and appreciate safety training specific to numerous workplace and construction hazards Ability to safely work in a variety of occupationally hazardous locations Medically fit to utilize respiratory protection devices and other forms of Personal Protective Equipment Ability to drive and safely operate a motor vehicle WJE is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
