This position is located within Facility Management Services at the Syracuse VAMC in Syracuse, NY. Qualifications

You may qualify for this position if you possess college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings.In order to qualify for this position you must possess at least one of the following basic requirements:

* DEGREE: Successfully completed of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in Architecture, or a related field that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which at least 30 semester hours were in architectural design, and 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems. TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED - If you do not provide a copy of your transcript, credit for your education may not be granted; OR

* RELATED CURRICULUM: Possess a bachelor's or higher degree in Architectural Engineering which included completed course work substantially equivalent to those provided in paragraph A. This curriculum must have covered function, esthetics, site, structure, economics, mechanical-electrical, and other engineering problems related to the design and construction of buildings primarily (but not exclusively) intended to house human activities and placed equal or greater weight on the technical engineering aspects of architecture such as structural systems, mechanical systems, and the properties of materials. TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED; OR

* EXPERIENCE: Completed at least 1 year of experience in an architect's office or in architectural work for each year short of graduation from a program of study in Architecture (NOTE: in the absence of college courses, 5 years of such experience is required. This experience must have demonstrated you have acquired a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional architecture).

In addition to the basic requirements above, you must also possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications:

* SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In addition to meeting at least one of the Basic Requirements, you may qualify for this position if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specific qualifying specialized experience for this position (which should be documented on your resume) is: previous work experience as an Architect managing multiple construction projects while coordinating multiple construction disciplines in multiple locations at the same time; reviewing and formulating corrective actions for construction design oversights in general construction; executing/enforcing NFPA, Joint Commission, and building codes; and experience utilizing AutoCAD software in order to perform necessary design tasks; OR

* EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION: If you do not possess specialized experience, you may qualify based on your education if it provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of an Architect. You must have successfully completed 3 years (54 semester hours) of higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree. (A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree is also qualifying.) TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED; OR

* COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Possess equivalent combinations of experience and education as described above to fully meet the requirements of this position.

Physical Requirements:

The work is primarily sedentary. Some work may require periods of walking, standing, bending, climbing, or driving a motor vehicle in activities such as inspections of installed equipment and visits to construction sites and industrial, commercial, agricultural, and other business establishments. Employees may carry light items such as books, instruments, and other similar materials. The work does not require any special physical effort.

Telework:

VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. This position may be authorized for telework. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process.

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave:

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employee's credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
