**MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. is currently seeking a Design Engineer to join our team in Redmond, Washington. Engineering focus will be on small pressure fed mono-propellant and bi-propellant thrusters, as well as electric propulsion development.
This current opening may be filled at this level as posted or at one level higher.
Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)
Mechanical engineering of hardware used in small thruster and electric propulsion applications. These pressure fed systems utilize tanks, valves, injectors, chambers and nozzles leveraging advanced metallic, ceramic and composite materials. Work is performed independently and peer reviewed by senior staff.
40% - Create concepts and detailed mechanical hardware designs used in mono-propellant and bi-propellant thruster propulsion systems. Will develop designs from system requirements using computer aided design tools in conjunction with preliminary finite element simulations. Innovative concepts will support trade studies and formal analysis work.
35% - Support advanced programs related to electric propulsion systems. Participate in Hall current thruster, Ion thruster and Arcjet thruster development programs. Support power processing unit (PPU) packaging, Xenon flow control development and system integration.
15% - Work directly with the factory floor during hardware fabrication. Support design for manufacturing and assembly work. Address non-conforming hardware. Participate in engineering drawing and specification configuration change boards.
10% - Prepare and present technical presentations for internal and external customers. Generate engineering reports necessary to document tolerance analyses, trade studies, or failure investigations.
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and two (2) years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. An advanced engineering degree is a plus. A strong mechanical aptitude and experience with CAD software tools expected, as well as proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Prior experience with pressurized systems (tanks, valves, fluid flow devices, metallic joining and processes) is helpful to performing job requirements. Design experience with high temperature ceramics (such as Boron Nitride) is desired.
