CAD is most commonly known as computer–aided design. As the name suggests CAD is the use of computer to design and draft technical and engineering drawings. The design or drafting can be done in two ways: 2–D and 3–D. With the help of 3–D CAD the designers can create a design of tools and machinery which can be used in the manufacturing of various components. CAD is widely used to design and draw the model of an entire building. It doesn't matter whether the building is a residential one or a commercial building, 3–D CAD can be effectively used for drafting and designing jobs.

There are a number of 3-D CAD jobs available for the people who are proficient in 3-D CAD software. Those who are seeking CAD employment opportunities should be able to create or modify design layouts, dimensional stacks, etc. which can meet the requirements of any clients. The 3-D CAD designer should be a team player who can work effectively with the designing team in order to meet the deadlines and contribute quality work as per the requirement of the client. The major responsibility of any 3-D CAD designer is to provide accurate and systematic work.

Those who are looking forward to make a career as a 3-D CAD designer should have basic knowledge of physics and mathematics as there are a number of calculations involved in using the software. There is no minimum qualification required to become a 3-D CAD designer; any degree or diploma may help you to compete against many other people who have applied for the same job, but having a degree in the field of construction or engineering helps a lot. When applying for the jobs of a 3-D CAD designer all you need is a solid portfolio and any prior job experience. The designer should be well versed with AutoCAD, Corel Draw, and some of the basic software which is most commonly used for graphic designing. You must have the skills of using computer-aided drafting as well as principles and fundamentals of geometric tolerance. A CAD training certificate can be very vital if you are looking for a 3-D CAD designer job.

The graphic designing industry has developed a lot in recent years and therefore the scope of the 3-D CAD designers is also very high. Some people think that such types of designers basically sit in the dark and work for pennies, but this is not the case. The 3-D CAD designers work for large companies where they have a high salary. As the realty sector developed, the need for such designers also escalated. Such designers are playing a major job in drafting and designing the buildings’ and other structures’ models. These designers have a great scope globally in the realty sector, automotive sector, etc. as they have escalated significantly in the past few years.

If you have experience using Solid Works, GD&T, etc., then you have a great scope. As CAD is a great option for the companies to eliminate the long procedure and the related cost involved, many companies are offering employment opportunities to the designers.

In order to meet requirements of the client or the employer the 3-D CAD designer needs to provide professional and accurate work. The work field for 3-D CAD is considered to be different from typical graphic designing but still the demand and value of such designers is great in the market and potentially it is very lucrative.
