A CAD technician prepares maps, drawings and designs, as-build record drawings and digital redlines using CAD and other technology tools for building and machinery in a wide range of industries such as engineering, construction and manufacturing. A CAD technician works in 2D design known as surface modeling and 3D design called solid modeling. A CAD technician uses query tools for research and identification of discrepancies in data. A CAD technician applies basic database and system administration techniques and basic GIS concepts A CAD technician performs research and interprets field notes, engineering and construction drawings and performs engineering computations which are applicable to his work and provides detailed, efficient and accurate data. A CAD technician should possess sound analytical skills as he has to read and interpret data, information and documents as well provide solutions using mathematical reasoning.
A CAD technician should possess a diploma or a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Civil engineering. He should have undergone training in computer aided design parametric modeling levels 1 to 3 and should be well conversant with uses and operations of Autodesk Map and AutoCAD software.
