Dreaming of becoming a Computer Aided Design Operator

A computer aided design operator is a person who is engaged in using software for creating drawings of buildings and products or any of the items that be manufactured or constructed. CAD operator's designs vary from the designing of machinery and tools to the designing of packaging and structural designing of the products. Modern CAD operators have helped to reduce the time required to design a particular product. CAD operators mainly work for designing, architectural work, engineering, municipal, construction and any other work that is to be put into drawing before practically putting those ideas into existence.

The main duties and responsibilities of a computer aided design operator are as follows:

•    To use computer software like AutoCAD to design machinery, tools or consumer products

•    Designing 3D design models using software

•    Taking the drawings from the architect, engineer or other designers and translating them into perfect CAD drawings.

•    Creating finished designs for a project mainly for specifications

•    They have to participate in the creative department as well as the research and development department of the organizations.

•    Bringing creativity in their designs

•    Coordinating with the rest of the organization well

There are good career prospects for CAD operators. There are a large amount of job openings for smart and talented CAD operators. CAD operators can work in telecom industries or in broadcasting industries. They can also work for designing water and electric supplies. They can also be placed in research and development departments of an organization. A CAD operator can prove to be of great help even in the garment industry. A CAD operator can step outside the design field and enter the IT software field. They can also enter programming, database management, and network administration.

The basic qualifications require to become a CAD operator is to have college education from any of the disciplines. However the ones that have been educated from the background of architecture, civil engineering, electronics, electrical engineering and communication engineering are most preferred. The ones that are from the background of computer sciences are also very much preferred. It is very important that the applicant has a basic knowledge of one or more CAD systems.

The CAD operator must be proficient with Microsoft office and Windows applications. The CAD operator must have skills to solve practical problems. The CAD operator must have a good background in traditional drafting and design concepts. The CAD operator must be master in more than one CAD system. The CAD operator must have good mathematical skills and should be capable of calculating discounts, interest, percentage, proportions, area, and volume and must be able to apply it to basic algebra and geometry. The CAD operator must be comfortable with PowerPoint. The main skill that you should have as a CAD operator is to solve problems very tactfully. This refers to solving the problem very practically and coming out with logical solutions. These are some of the skills required for this job.

A CAD operator requires undergoing training. Training is required on multiple CAD programs, general computing theory, and a different variety of productivity applications. It is necessary to select the training school properly because all the schools do not provide the same quality of training.

The salaries of CAD operators vary according to your living place. The average salary of a CAD operator is around $56,000. As your experience grows with the position your salary expectations will rise and that is what you will get.

The fields such as architecture, industrial design engineering, construction building engineering, manufacturing process planning, and digital circuit design, apparel and fashion, landscape design, mechanical engineering, and many more need CAD operators. These fields are spread throughout the world which enables you to get opportunity throughout the globe.

The CAD operator has a very important role to play in business organizations and make much of the work easy. The CAD operator has great demand in almost every industry. Their skills of designing provide strong and durable products. They save a lot of time that is spent on implementing and testing new designs and if these designs are wrong then they have to be changed.
