Having a career in CAD (especially AutoCAD) allows you to use the latest technology to design and build cars and automotive parts. You can custom suit your knowledge to a specific area of the auto industry and for a rewarding automotive career. Specializing in a specific will ensure a long term career in the automotive field.

What do I need to become an auto CAD specialist?
  • Technology careers require creativity from the right side of the brain and logical thinking from the right side of the brain
  • You will succeed in an auto CAD career if you emphasize on auto part development and implementation.
  • A good candidate must have a desire to establish or re-establish a career in technology specifically related to the automotive industry
  • You must have a passion for automobiles, their parts and how to create and develop auto manufacturing applications
You must then decide which are to specialize in within the automotive industry. As with any career, the first step is education. ITT Technical Institute is a very good choice for CAD education. The school has in-depth curriculum that combines classes and hands on training/internship program.

ITT's online CAD courses online are also in very high demand and are considered valuable just like classroom studies. Learn to apply your knowledge in the automotive industry.

Studying online or at the school itself is the first step to a good, long term, fulfilling career in auto CAD. The auto CAD industry will continue to evolve and influence the automobiles we drive today and automobiles we will drive in the future. Only time will tell if you can invent a super car full of advanced features.

How to design a car

The first step is to find a car that you like. Choose a car that does not require too much work on its exterior portion. Take photos of all directions of the car and then take measurements, all around, front to back, side to side, etc. The more measurements you have the easier it will be to model your dream car.

The next step is to sketch your car as close to the car model you chose as possible. Draw several viewpoints of the car, only one angle is not enough. Now add the features you would like, for example a spoiler and any other features that will add value to your dream car. Tracing paper is a good choice for sketching since it will preserve the original.

Now that your design is ready, decide if you would like a computer model of the car. You can create a computerized version of your car in CAD. This will allow you to see your car more clearly, once your model is complete.

The next step is to find a model that is similar to your creation. This is the base for your project and to work. Add parts that are not included on the model you have chosen. These parts can be found in older model cars. Once your model car is put together, primed, sanded, and painted your model car will be a unique creation from your own talent and creativity, a masterpiece you are proud to call your own.
